Los Angeles and New York in Style

I've just come back from a visit to the US. I'd wanted to explore two of the biggest cities in America for a while, and the opportunity came up to visit Los Angeles and New York.

I booked
business class flights to New York online with British Airways. Club class is always a real treat - at least as good as many other (particularly American) airlines first class cabins. You get a fold flat bed, and the cabin staff seem to be far more friendly - it's the least you'd expect when you are effectively paying £1000 for 7 hours!

I stayed in the
Waldorf Astoria Hotel for 3 nights. Apparently it is the flagship property of the Hilton Group, and La Paris Hilton lives there in the penthouse. Didn't see any sign of her - although I don't think I'd recognise her (fully dressed) if she bumped into me.

Hotel was predictably excellent, although I do find the American staff's constant coughing and expectation of a tip for doing their job a little tiresome. I appreciate that they're low paid, but expecting something for smiling and lifting my lightweight suitcase is a little much.

Everything that can be said about New York already has been, and so I'll gloss over the details of the stay. Saw the sights, bought some
duty free perfume, etc. After 3 days of handing out $1 bills to every scruffy urchin in the city, I was ready for some sun, so we headed to JFK and boarded our business class flights to Los Angeles.

For some reason, the light seems totally different on the west coast, more yellow. Itt makes you feel good about yourself and everyone else. I even found myself saying "dude" on one occasion! Madness!

Stayed at the Loews in Santa Monica. Great. We had a night out as guests of some local business man. I must confess that the seedy side of the city is never far away - particularly on Sunset Boulevard - although I guess that that is a symptom of the city being the repository for so many broken dreams. Not everyone can be a movie star I suppose, but You do wonder why they don't head for home instead of turning to the streets. Maybe the shame of failure in the eyes of those you seek to impress is worse than the shame of a life in the shadows.

Cheap business class flights

Hey I just found this website that specialises in Cheap Business Class Flights. They have airfares from all the main airlines including KLM and Singapore Airlines, and offer some of the cheapest flights around.

When you book flights online with them, you can compare prices between different carriers to ensure that you are getting the best deal around for your airfare.

Amongst their top luxury destinations, flights to Dubai will get you to one of the most outstanding resorts in the world. There are some truly amazing hotels in Dubai such as the Jumeirah Beach hotel and the opulent Burj Al Arab that make it one of the best places in the world to enjoy a magnificent holiday where sunshine and great weather are important. For people who want to visit somewhere a little less well known, Abu Dhabi Hotels are a great alternative - particularly the famous Emirates Palace Hotel - one of the best hotels in the world!

Flights with Northwest Airlines

Hey.

Don't forget that if you want to fly with NORTHWEST AIRLINES for any reason - such as wanting to go somewhere that they fly to, you can book a flight with them online for a little bit less than you would pay over the counter in a travel agent - and you won;t have to deal face to face with a woman who has been turned orange by spending far too much time on a sun bed.

I mean, it seems a prerequisite these days that if you want to get a job in the glamorous industry that travel is not, you need to be the colour of tropicana. Its a bit silly, but there you go. Actually, its the same with hair dressers. All wrinkled up like a california raisin, and they clip at your hair making inconsequential small talk.

And while I'm on the subject, what did all the young "men" who've just got a job in this office say to their hairdressers?

poor little mites with their stripy hair and affected manner.

Business Class with Cathay Pacific

Hi...
I've just found a great site for getting cheap flights with Cathay pacific airways. They offer low fares in all classes to destinations across the Far East and Australia - If you fly business class with Cathay Pacific, you get loads of great benefits.

The seat pitch is 55 inches, your luggage allowance is 30KG of checked baggage, and you get access to the stylish Cathay Pacific lounges around the world. If you want a Flights to Hong Kong , especially, Cathay Pacific are a great choice.

Cathay pacific flights to Hong Kong are direct from London Heathrow, and are one of my favourite airlines - especially the colour of their planes. They are Jade green with a little bit of red and grey. Overall, if I were to rate Cathay Pacific, I'd give them a seven and a half out of ten. They only really lose out because the toilets at the back of the plane always smell of wee!

Getting Upgraded to Business Class for Free...

OK, if you want to get a free business class upgrade on every flight you take, then you might as well keep dreaming. There is no guaranteed way of getting upgraded, but there are some guidelines you should try to follow.

Number one is to ask. When you initially check in for the flight, the person on the till will know what the chances are, so see if they can swing anything for you. Be polite, smile, and enquire - ask if there is "any chance of getting an upgrade". If there is they will tell you. If there isn't, don't get angry.

Number two, look the part - remember that the other people in business class have paid through the nose to get their seat, and don't want a slob getting put in with them. Look smart and you are far more likely to get shifted up the plane.

Number three, If you haven't got an upgrade on the ground, don't panic, you can still get one in the air. One thing I've tried on a crowded plane is to call over a stewardess and feign claustrophobia, the last thing any member of staff wants is a panicking passenger, if they have a seat free, they can move you - don't expect full service in business class though - it ain't gonna happen.

Number Four, Don't be unrealistic. If you have booked a cheap flight and paid the lowest fare, then you are less likely to get an upgrade than someone who paid full price.

Number Five, Join the Frequent flier club for the airline, and give yourself a title. On my Emirates membership, I'm Sir XXXXXXXXXX, it raises an eyebrow at check in, but often counts in your favour. Be careful though, if you do try this one, you need to act the part!

No matter where in the world you fly to, there are few things that are more pleasant than getting to fly up at the front of the plane. When you travel in business class with airlines such as British Airways, Emirates, and Malaysia Airlines, you will be treated better than you can imagine. Well trained, attentive staff are on hand to see to your every need, and you can relax on a seat that is not only much larger than the ones you get in economy, it is also far more comfortable. Indeed some business class seats fold flat to make a bed for you to stretch out and sleep on.
